To Soothe The Savage Breast: An Ovi

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #76.
This week’s inspiration word is “calm”.
Take a nice deep breath. This is my Ovi.

First thing in the morning
As the day is dawning
While stretching and still yawning
I flip on the radio

There’s nothing like a song
Like T-Rex’s ‘Bang A Gong’
To right whatever’s wrong
It puts me in a good mood

I love the sounds of Daryl Hall
In Springtime warm or chilly Fall
Or walking through a busy mall
He’s got that smooth Philly sound

How about a little Bach
Or maybe some Burt Bacharach
Toss in a dose of heavy rock
Something for everyone

Let’s not forget the Beatles four
A band I truly do adore
They always leave me wanting more
Their tunes are so great

Music soothes the savage breast
Puts your nervous soul to rest
Relax! It is the very best
To calm your mind and body down

When you’re feeling all up tight
Before you get into a fight
Turn on the music, make it right
You’ll be so glad you did!

Give me some sweet peace and love
Floating like a turtle dove
Sweet sounds streaming from above
Oh baby! That’s music!

  1. After a day at the Hospital, undergoing a procedure, it was indeed soothing to be home listening to some soothing music …
