Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #75.
Our inspiration word is “persevere” and this is my ovi.

When all those we hold dear
Whether far from us or near
Bring pain or cause a tear
We may lose hope
Friendships we thought would last
Present ones or past
Lovers we once held fast
Left us brokenhearted
Our children are all grown
They’ve left the nest, they’ve flown
Now with children of their own
We’re filled with mixed emotions
The true love of our life
A husband or a wife
Has left this world of strife
We feel so lost
It’s said time will heal all
No matter how hard we fall
We will rise and again walk tall
It’s difficult to believe
When things don’t go has planned
When you’re dealt a lousy hand
And the flames of woe are fanned
It’s easy to give up
Tomorrow is another day
A new chance to pave the way
An opportunity to say
It will all work out
We can’t give up the fight
Keep believing what is right
Muster all your might
We will prevail

No one is immune. It all depends on how we choose to handle what gets tossed our way.
Thanks, you! 🫶🏼

So many plot twists along the road. I like the think of Peter Falk and Alan Arkin dodging bullets from evil henchmen, in “The In-laws” (1979). A fun film to lift one’s spirits!

That’s a classic movie with two great actors; always a fun watch. Thanks for making a nice comparison, Liz!
