Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #68
where our inspiration word is âdefeatâ.
Here is my ovi.

There are times in life
Days full of stress and strife
Not just full but rife
And you’re ready to give up
Canât tell friend from foe
A world teeming with woe
With no safe place to go
Living day-to-day is scary
People sleeping in the street
Begging for a bite to eat
No shelter from the searing heat
And no one lends a hand
The haves and the have nots
Big shots and little snots
Canât connect the daily dots
The struggle is very real
Defeat may whisper in your ear
âEnoughâs enough, come here my dearâ
Ignore the voice and donât go near
Bend gently in the wind
Life can be a slippery slope
Donât lose your faith or your hope
Hang on tight to that safety rope
You will rise above

We need to remind ourselves of this now and again. The easy way out is rarely the right way to go.

Yes, this has been my credo during my recuperation and it definitely has not been easy!

Thank you! I’m doing very well, Keith. I went to the supermarket with Bill yesterday …. just a quick trip but it was great to be out doing something “normal”. I have rough days but I’m steadily improving.
I love that song, too.

Apart from your personal stories and reflections, this segment – ‘poetry challenge’ is my favourite to read from you. Also I featured this Peter Gabriel song not too long ago. I love the ‘bridge in it’.

You’re welcome Nancy. I love your poems in this segment.
You know what often for me sets apart great songs from the rest are the quality of the bridges which are usually just mediocre fillers. Here Gabriel excels. He really does.

You make an excellent point, Matt, and something to keep an ear out for in the future. However, I think most bridges are exactly that …. just connectors from one verse to the other without too much else going on. It’s great when you find a cool one.

You are going to hate me for bringing this up, but do you know which artist who is a master of delivering the best bridges at least to my ears?
Drum roll..(ouchies) Springsteen – your favourite lol
If you can muster it, watch Springsteen below in ‘Countin’ on a Miracle’ from 1:40. Now that’s a ‘Bridge’.

Yeah! Something normal. It happens, not as fast as we want, but it still happens.

Don’t! He was a devious tyrant who killed visitors just to show off his power. Not a very gracious host!

How amazing are your words! Wish I had written that because Thatâs how I feel about world events too.
The Ovi is the perfect form. Wonderful.
I âhopeâ that with more people awaking to this sad reality we right the scales âbecause as the way things progress it could be us needing the assistance of others.
