Written for Friday Fictioneers where our host Rochelle
has asked us to use the photo below as inspiration
to get creative in 100 words or less, making
every word count. Hereās my flash.

Just my luck! First day of my new job; things couldnāt have gotten off to a worse start!
Overnight blackout during a heatwave.
No electricity.
No AC; I sweat like crazy all night and smell like an ox.
No alarm clock; I overslept.
No time for a shower and shave.
No closet light; Iām wearing one brown shoe and one black.
I look like a derelict!
Nothing for breakfast; no time for even fast food.
Iām stuck behind road hogs. “Outta my way, you fools! Iām late for work!“
Some first impression. I must have a cloud over my head!

Well this was awesome, but, power outages, hate them! Xo

Outages have to be the ultimate drag, CA. We only had two bad ones and that was enough for a lifetime!
Thanks, CA. Glad you enjoyed the story.

Nancy that’s just what it’s like too. Why I hate power outages. Since retiring, the worst part of one is keeping the phone charged. You picked the perfect song to go with your story. I never heard that version. Cream is the one I’m familiar with.

Thanks, Lisa. I’m with you about power outages; they set the stage for everything else.
I’m glad you liked the song, too. This is the original version, before Cream.

I saw that. I think Cream did at least a few covers of old gold while they were together.

I know they did a couple of different versions of this song and likely a few other covers as well.

Dear Nancy,
I can only imagine how that first day on the job will go. Hopefully the new employer is understanding. Maybe? Good one.

Yes, Rochelle. This poor guy has already been through the mill …. and his day is just starting. He deserves a break! Maybe his new boss also endured the blackout and will be sympathetic.
Thanks, Rochelle.

What a morning! Let’s hope things don’t get any worse than they already are. I remember putting on my boots in the dark one morning to go to work. As I walked, I couldn’t understand why the boots felt so funny. Then, I realized that I was wearing my sister’s boot on one foot and mine on the other foot. Thankfully, the boots were the same color.

Haha!! I think we’ve all had some sort of wardrobe mismatch or another. Who knows … you could have started a new fashion sensation!

Hehe, that poor bloke. Let’s hope the new boss has a sense of humour. And no sense of smell…
The mismatch happened to me with socks but luckily never with shoes.

Haha! Great comment … no sense of smell!
Mismatched socks are a thing now; you can even buy mismatched socks! Why would anyone want to buy them when we already have them in our drawers?!?
Thanks, GH.
