Welcome to Birthday Thursdays! Each week I will feature someone from the world of music whose birthday falls on this day. There won’t be any chit chat from me, no facts and figures – just some great tunes (and an occasional surprise). Check it out right here every Thursday and enjoy the music.

Happy Birthday to Lenny Davidson

I always loved the DC5! I was so glad when their stuff finally became available on CD a few years back.

Me too, to the chagrin of my silly Beatles only friends!

Tottenham Sound FTW!

Yep … Clark’s punchy drumming, Payton’s saxophone padding and Smith’s belting vocals.
No Mersey Beat Sound here!

I really enjoyed listening to Because! So different from everything else they did.

You’re right, Keith. It’s my favorite song of theirs.

The Dave Clark 5 certainly gave The Beatles a run for their money, especially in the States.

I remember going to a local dance hall “Surf City Stomp” and dancing to “Bits and Pieces” … but I can’t remember the name of the band … 😎🎵

Lots of wonderful memories, Ivor! I’m impressed you remembered the name of the dance hall and the song you danced to! 😁 🎶

My childhood returns! Great choice of a birthday. And for anyone who doesn’t know, Lenny is the bass player.

Thanks for the clarification, Clive.
DC5 was a great little band, weren’t they?

They were definitely that. And just as successful on both sides of the pond. Interesting snippet for you: Because was a big hit over there, but only ever a B-side here 😊

That’s interesting. Love that ballad by them.

I preferred their uptempo songs tbh. Red Balloon was a nice midrange one though.

Didn’t he play guitar? He’s the one with the lighter hair….

I was wondering who the hell Lenny Davidson was 😉 Dave Clark Five is one of those groups that I know without knowing i.e. I recognize their tunes but if you asked me who sings them, I’d draw a blank. Thanks for the clarification (which I shall promptly forget, I just know it!)

Haha! Sometimes when preparing these birthdays, I’ll come across a list of names and won’t recognize a single one; it’s rare but it happens. That was the case with this one but as soon as I read Lenny was with DC5, I had to go with him. And that, my friend, is the reasoning behind today’s birthday choice! 🎂

Sounds like a sound reason to choose Lenny 😉

They were! For me it was never DC5 or Beatles; there was room for both!
Thanks, Willow! 🩶
