Written for Friday Fictioneers where we are asked to get creative
in 100 words or less using this image for inspiration. Here’s my story.

In the middle of a field there stands a great big tree and at the base of the tree’s very broad trunk is a miniature door with a little knob. Beyond that miniature door is the most dizzying of spiral staircases intricately woven together with twigs and seeds, licked-clean popsicle sticks and discarded toothpicks. Each landing of the staircase leads to a cluster of tiny rooms .… storage rooms, dining rooms, play rooms, sun rooms and hibernating rooms. Inside those tiny rooms are the giddiest chipmunks busy storing, dining, playing, sunning and, when the wintry snowflakes bluster about, snugly hibernating. 🐿️

I think this very tree was in the movie ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. Boo Radley hid sugary treats for the neighborhood children in it.

Nancy, in some nearby dimension, I’m sure exactly what you describe is happening. Chipmunks are industrious little critters and are well-known dimension shifters.

Now after listening to ‘Twigs and Seeds’ I just want to ask: Are you sure that hibernating is all that’s going on in those chipmunks’ hibernating rooms??? And why are they so giddy? Eh? Eh??
Chuckle chuckle.

Have you ever seen the way chipmunks chase each other around at warp speed? I’d say that’s the answer to your question, Margaret.
Chipmunks …. the original party animals!
Thanks!

So glad you liked this one, Tiffany. I’d forgotten about that song; when I was punching in key words for a video, that one popped up and I knew I’d landed on the right one. Great fun writing this little story.
Thanks so much!

Thanks sharing your comments, Liz. I see toward the end you’re either speaking in code, have taken up Klingon or have dipped into the twigs and seeds. Whatever …. it’s all cool here. No judging 😎😁

Yeah … behind the little magical door, deep within the dark green forest, there, flittering above the miniature spiral stairway, you’ll see a frollick of mischievous faeries. Could you please ask them to stop tossing their sparkly faerie dust everywhere, us Chipmunks need our shuttie-eye!

So, that’s where all the noise and dust are coming from!
