Hail To The Chief

Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday in the U.S., celebrated on the third Monday in February; Presidents’ Day 2024 will occur on February 19 …. hey, that’s today!

Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers.

While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present. Very few people do that and the holiday is a day off for federal employees, kids have winter break this week and Presidents’ Day sales are going strong in stores around the country.

Hey, if you can’t laugh at the leader of the free world, who can you laugh at? Enjoy the holiday!

    1. My pleasure! I’m delighted to know you enjoyed this and shared it.

I do not think it’s very nice to laugh at people when they fall; goodness knows I’ve been there. However, when it comes to politicians, all bets are off!

Good luck with your wild, wild weather!

    1. No matter what side of the political fence people may be on, Nancy Reagan was a lovely, refined woman who knew how to roll with the punches without breaking a nail. Grace under fire. I liked what the prez said to her after all the commotion settled down. First he asked if she was alright ,then he said: “Honey, I told you to do it if I wasn’t getting any applause.” Class act all the way.

      Thanks, Michele.

    1. At this moment, I’m really wishing I was Australian!

I’m laughing at this fantastic parody of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “When I Was A Lad” from H.M.S. Pinafore, thinking how much funnier it would be if I was in on the joke!

      Thanks for the share, Ivor

      1. Bob Hawke was a former Prime Minister (40 years ago) and quite an ‘Aussie’ character …
Bob Hawke, Australia’s 23rd prime minister, made a memorable statement after Australia II won the America’s Cup in 1983. He declared: “Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum.” This victory was a defining moment in Australian history, breaking America’s 132-year stranglehold on the prestigious sailing race.
