Welcome to Birthday Thursdays! Each week I will feature someone from the world of music whose birthday falls on this day. There won’t be any chit chat from me, no facts and figures – just some great tunes (and an occasional surprise). Check it out right here every Thursday and enjoy the music.

Happy Birthday to Harold Arlen (Composer)
Born February 15, 1905 in Buffalo, New York
From “The Wizard Of Oz”, it’s Judy Garland singing “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”
“Blues In The Night” from the album “Sentimental Journey: Hits From The Second World War”
This is Ella Fitzgerald singing “Stormy Weather”

There are so many songs we know well without having given a thought to who wrote them, and for me, this is a perfect example!

You’re so right, Keith. Harold Arlen wrote some beautiful music back then. Now, thanks to technology, we can listen to that beautiful music.

Familiar with all the songs. But not familiar with Harold Arlen. Much respect to his wonderful talent. And of course thank you for giving attention to the great musical masters.

These are the greatest of their day, the backstage magicians who brought the music and words to life.
For me and others of my generation (and musical buffs), this fabulous music will live on forever.
Thanks for your kind words, Sighs.
