Mad World: An Ovi

Written for Ronovanwrites Ovi Poetry Challenge 40: Tragedy
Ovi Rules: 4-line stanza, 8 syllables or less per line,
first 3 lines rhyme, 4th line must not rhyme.
Additional stanzas keep the same rhyming pattern
but do not rhyme each other.

Homeless living on the street
Children with no food to eat
People crying in defeat
We are stuck in a hopeless mess.

Politicians always lying
Innocents in war are dying
Talk of peace but no one’s trying
It all seems so fucking futile.

Playgrounds teeming with poison drugs
Computer hackers spreading bugs
Protestors being shot with slugs
Has every person gone insane?

No clean water left to drink
Can you smell that awful stink
Our universe is on the brink
The tragedies of a mad world.

    1. Yeah, you did! I’m willing to give anything a go once I have a feel for it and am relatively comfortable. That was a great learning experience; now I have another style of writing I can add to my list!

  8. Sadly, so true.

    That Adam Lambert performance is a straight copy of the version by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules which was done for the Donnie Darko movie. It made #1 here. The original is by Tears For Fears, slightly more uptempo and also a big UK hit.

      Thanks for that info, Clive. This Adam Lambert audio is a single which (I believe) was made after he sang this version on American Idol, which he then went on to lose to Kris Allen (who?). Losing AI was exactly what his career needed. I just realized I could have used this song for an upcoming SLS; it fits the bill but I’m sure, after what feels like 117 seasons of American Idol, I’ll be able to find another! 🤣

      1. To British ears that is just a blatant rip off, done in the knowledge that neither of the two previous versions were US hits. As for SLS, given that you have taken it over perhaps you could have planned it better 🤣
